Why sell your canoe or kayak
at this auction?

Simply put, there is not a better place in the USA to sell a used canoe or kayak than this auction.  Located right in the heart of paddling country in Minneapolis, nearly a thousand buyers attend this auction looking to purchase a boat!

As a seller, you are allowed to set a minimum selling price for your boat and if the bid doesn't reach that minimum, you are charged nothing.  However, past auction results show that over 90% of all boats reach their minimum bid, and most fetch prices much higher.  Soon after your boat is sold you will receive a check.  The only cost to you is a 15% selling commission (for example, if your boat brings $500 on the auction you will receive a check for $425).  See “Terms” below.

Ok, so you have decided to sell your boat at the auction.  Here is a great, quick tip that will help your boat bring top dollar:  tape a note on the boat describing where you used it, how long you have owned it, how it performed or tips for the new buyer.  Put the note in a baggie if it is raining.

Still have questions?  Please feel free to call auctioneer Tony Elfelt of AAA Auctions at
(763) 421-2099.  He will answer any additional questions you may have.

How to buy a canoe or kayak
at this auction?

Buying a boat at the auction is easy.  All you need to do is show your ID to auction staff and you will receive a bidding number and a tip sheet explaining how the auction works.  Bidding numbers are free.  The auction starts at 11:00am and the preview hour is from 10:00 – 11:00am  We recommend buyers arrive at 10:00am so you will have enough time to preview all the boats.  Buyers can pay with check, cash or credit card.  Still have questions?  Please feel free to call auctioneer Tony Elfelt of AAA Auctions at (763) 421-2099.  He will answer any additional questions you may have.  See “Terms” below.

If you need help determinining what type of boat is best for your needs, bring an experienced friend, or do your homework early.  Look for generalities, not necessarily specifics.  A great Brand X boat might show up.  It could be the perfect boat for you!  You will need to know if its hull design fits your paddling style.  Come on Friday evening at 5:00pm for the “Evaluating Used Boats” clinic.  Consult the current manufacturer’s web sites or catalogs.  Good ones are wenonah.com and cdkayak.com.  Click on Resources.  They offer generic hull design discussions.  Sorry, the Midwest Mountaineering staff are not available during the auction.  We are in the tents selling the new boats and new accessories!

Terms

For Sellers: a 15% commission will be charged to sell a canoe or kayak.  Sellers will be paid on the day of the auction.  Sellers are allowed to set a minimum selling price - there is no charge to the seller if the boat does not reach the minimum.  Dealers, representatives, and outfitters who are planning on selling more than 5 boats need to contact AAA Auction for approval.  For Buyers: A 10% Buyer’s Premium will also be added on to the winning bid amount.  The premium will be 13% if a credit card is used.

All buyers need to get a free bidding number at the auction.  Simply show auction staff a driver's license or proper identification.  All boats must be picked up by 2:30 after the auction.  Boats are the responsibility of the owner during the auction, or of the new owner as soon as the auctioneer says “Sold!”

Additional terms:  Cash, check or Visa / Mastercard accepted. AAA Auction and Midwest Mountaineering are not responsible for accidents. No property shall be removed from premises until paid for.  Any statement made by the auctioneer the date of the auction takes precedence over printed matter.  Auctioneers have the sole discretion of selling auxiliary components as a unit or separate, and reserve the right to forbid or remove any and all persons from participating in the auction.  All boats are sold "As Is."  Contact Tony Efelt of AAA Auctions ID #2710089 at 763-421-2099 if you have further questions.

More details coming soon!

Correction:  AAA Auctions phone number is 763–421–2099  (not area code 673 as listed below).
